Visakhapatnam As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO)'s Naval Science & Technological Laboratory (NSTL) here is taking various initiatives towards highlighting the importance of R&D, motivating DRDO fraternity, in particular igniting young minds. NSTL, the premier naval research laboratory of DRDO, in Visakhapatnam, is conducting a short-term course on "Reliability Engineering" in association with the Institution of Quality & Reliability (IQR), Pune as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsavat Mohapatra Manasi Auditorium, NSTLon October 22 and 23.

'NSTL Quality Policy' was released by the chief guest on the occasion. Senior scientists, officers, members of the NSTL Civil Employees Union & Works Committee and staff of NSTL participated in the event

Dr. Samir V. Kamat, distinguished scientist & Director General (Naval Systems & Materials) was the chief guest for the inaugural session while Rear Admiral Ranjit Singh, Director, Directorate Quality, Reliability & Safety (DQRS) DRDO Headquarters attended the event through video conference. NSTL and Hemant Urdhwareshe, Principal Consultant & Director IQR spoke.

Speaking on the occasion, Rear Admiral Ranjit Singh, Director DQRS, DRDO HQs complimented NSTL for organising the useful course. He narrated quality & reliability as two eyes to an organisation, and with both, safety is automatically ensured.

He said that the NSTL Quality Policy is well-aligned with DRDO Quality Policy. He opined that quality brings prosperity and predicted a bright future for NSTL.

Dr. Y Sreenivas Rao, Director NSTL highlighted the NSTL's quality structure and brought out how it is unique and apt for the design & development of world-class underwater weapons.

He expressed happiness over incorporating quality culture in all phases of realising a system viz. design, develop, produce, feedback from user (Indian Navy) and improve.

In his address Dr. Samir V Kamat, the Chief guest hoped that DRDO becomes 'QRS Champion Organisation' in the nearby future. He said that till now NSTL developed systems, focusing on quality and now he insisted that NSTL, which is in matured phase, will focus on developing reliable systems.
